I'm encouraging everyone to try out 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors.

It's from the same writer of Ever17, has a really nice story, and the puzzles are fun as well. Plus, you get a chance to support official VN localizations, and it's not even expensive. I finished 1 ending and I'm in the middle of my second run.
Non-spoiler plot summary is that there's 9 people that wake up in a sinking boat, and they all have to try to find a way out within 9 hours. The person that put them in the boat put lots of puzzles and locked doors for them. Everyone has a bracelet with a certain number, and doors require them to use those bracelets to open them, meaning they have to split up into groups. They have to try to find door that leads to the exit.
As far as I can go into the story without spoiling.
If you don't have a DS, I do believe roms are legal if you own a physical copy. Just sayin, don't quote me on that.
