Did a little skill testing with a friend of mine, and here's what we found.
Active Aura effects: 40% redistributed damage, 10% of redistributed damage is absorbed, +60% defense
The +60% defense works in a pretty standard way. It stacks with other defense buffs.
The 40% redistributed damage reduces all damage taken by party members by 40%. For some reason, this does not show up on the Battle Mage's screen. i.e. I saw my party member take 221 damage from a Sand Rat, while in reality he took 152 damage (I only have level 1 Adv Blue Aura, which redistributes 31% damage). On his screen, it showed up as 152 damage. Meanwhile, the Battle Mage takes some of the redistributed damage (a paltry amount - I took about 16 damage from that hit; I'm not sure exactly how it's calculated because it doesn't seem to match the "absorbed" value). This doesn't seem to work in reverse; whenever I took damage, my party member did not feel the effects of the aura.
Finally, this little gem:

My conclusions: if the 1/1 death happens with other spells and not just Frankenroid's 1/1 punch that took forever to coax out (kept taking touch for some reason), then this skill sucks. Otherwise, it's a solid damage reduction for the party and can be very useful as long as party members hug the Battle Mage. Overall, Adv Blue Aura adds more survivability than Hyper Body, although it's limited by the aura range.
