IMHO, #1 is beautifully done, and can be used for Southperry anniversary, but it is too in-jokey for regular use. It's one thing to greet unlurkers with "welcome to the land of chinchillas and pineapples", it's quite another to do it to every random visitor.
#8... well, we have lots of people with similar stuff in their siggies or avatars, so we can't pretend that sort of thing is too low-brow, too "basil" for Southperry. However, it does look more like a Nexon annoucement/ad header than a header for a "renegade website".
The plain text ones... They're all nice, but if we're going plain-text, might as well stick to the current banner. I don't see the point in change for change's sake. But I don't see any harm in rotating the lot of them every month or so for variety, either.
The Bean... yeah, I don't like it either (the bean, not the banner. Banner's fine, for what it's trying to do). Nexon use it too much.
#7... I really like the concept, and the execution looks fine standalone, but jarring on the page.
I do think something of that sort could work to be better than our current banner. Something to show we specialize in information.
How about: Show a monster in X-Ray or possibly HUD-style "target info display". Not Bean, please. I'd go with Orange Mushroom. What does a mushroom's X-Ray show? Maybe a Maple Leaf, then, though that's no monster.
