I never wore speed gear while misting and I honestly didn't see much of a difference whether you used it or not.
While teleport does provide enough mobility for most mages, I've found that walking at a brisk pace and teleporting when needed provides much more control than just teleporting everywhere. There's more character control, and less teleporting into things. Plus, there are times when teleport literally won't work, like on a narrow ledge or something. In those instances, I've found that speed and jump are more important than the ability to teleport. In short, it just adds the possibility for even more mobility, and a hell of a lot more fun in my opinion. The game feels clunky to me now.
