I play both HoN, DotA and LoL and i agree that DotA is far more enjoyable if you get a nice team, that's the keyword, a nice team, which is really hard to get, the average DotA community sucks.
Not that LoL is a lot better, but i got friends who play it -> i get good teams often.
I curbstomped my friends in DotA and it's not their game.
But i didnt play DotA for a few months now, so i'm slow and i don't know the new heroes xD would be fun to become good at it again tho.
Also some champs can get away with greavers in high elo, trynd for example.

Kog Maw, too. Range like his can keep him out of the fight and he itemizes very well with attack speed.
