I think it's great they finally made some balance with swords vs BWs and swords vs axes by getting rid of the slash/stab differences, however it irks me that, as a one-handed weapon wielding white knight, swords are still a better option.
One-handed swords and one-handed BWs have the same base attack yet the majority of swords are fast (5) while BWs are normal (6). That means with a perfect one-handed sword and perfect one-handed bw, the sword will output more DPS because of it's greater speed.
Only the Crushed Skull has a higher base attack than a sword of the same level (reverse and timeless executioners) and yet those swords can still surpass the Crushed Skull from level ups.
This is just the information I've pulled off of Hidden-street's database. Unless I'm missing something it seems swords still have the advantage most of the time because they are one level speed faster.
Shame really, I would have liked the thought of the two weapons being completely equal, but it seems that if I want to maximize my damage output I would have to choose a sword.
