Could have just flipped around some sp using CO to get your skills maxed. As you might think there's no point, tanking hits from PB is a good idea since it does probably over 20k bump damage to most low def jobs. It's not like its super easy for most people to even get that much hp unless you hp wash but not many people love spending tons on ap resets just to get that kind of hp. With paladin's overly high defense, you'll probably see around 7-8k bumps as opposed to 20k from other jobs. Good to take advantage of since shield mastery won't help you much when it comes to magic attacks.
To the above poster, its an extra hit that doesn't use any animation. Think of having a monster helping you hit at a 40% chance every time you use a skill or something. It's not super good but still something you should max regardless. Your max attack skills come first before final attack though, its not important enough to care about.
