Last I checked (which was a really long time ago), level pass 10 and you'll miss out on SP. Like from level 10 to 11, if you have a job, you get 3 SP. If you don't have a job, you don't get any SP. So if you advance to a job as a beginner at level 11, you lose out on those 3 SP.
I don't know if they changed that but that's how it was. Also, even as a beginner, how much int you have effects how much MP you gain when you level up. So at level 7, you can leave the island and get int stuff to gain a few extra MP for HP washing... though I don't know who scrolls int things for level 7 and under equips. Even lukless magicians scroll level 10 and up
