Doesn't Facebook have a new chain letter every day or something that people blindly follow just because "all the cool kids are doing it and I don't wanna be left out"?
Me either, but I'd really not have many people to add aside from family and online friends (and I wouldn't have both on the same account, my online life should not make contact with my persona life). Not to mention I'm too lazy to actually check up on stuff like that anyway, and it'd be more of a chore than anything.
It is a joke. Just because there were less reported cases of child abuse that day doesn't mean it's directly related to this, nor does it mean that child abuse was stopped by people putting Rugrats as image. I'm sure there were plenty of child abuse cases that day. Maybe there were less reports because people were too busy checking out all the cartoons their friends put as their images instead of walking outside to see their neighbor beating a child.
I'm sure this awareness might have made some people really think about their actions as an abusive parent, but I find it incredibly unlikely that something had the Grinch effect of making child abuses around the world reform their ways.
