Take the model of the ant. Even down to the tiniest pupa each member of the colony serves a function vital to the continued survival of the entirety of the group. The workers work, gathers gather, hunters hunt, queen reproduces, warriors fight and defend. Humans seem to have lost that dynamic aspect to their existence, so more than nothing we are just that, thoughts racing to and fro, frantically searching within ourselves for a self-validating reason to continue the pointlessness of our existence.
