Ive never really heard of a case where parents treated their children as more of a friend than (you put it very well) a prize. I mean.... you could see it in movies and whatnot but in actual life this is most uncommon.
Its good to hear that it all developed well. You are truly lucky to have such a childhood and such relaxed and understanding parents.
Eh, my parents have always been chill. They had me in their late 30s though, so no same-generation friend stuff going on. But all the same, I've never been grounded or anything like that because I've never really needed to be. Another good example would be curfews. Never had one. Just a "call us if gets close to midnight and you're still out" and I would then I'd stay out. That transitioned into a "come home eventually or let us know if you aren't" toward the end of high school. My dad's not the yelling type and my mom's only ever really yelled at my sister when my sister started yelling first. I look at Spidey's story and think "yeah, sounds about right".
