On the possibility that they remain untradeable if not fully upgraded (but still stackable with the final ring), it sounds like it makes the most sense to leave the one ring on your main un-maxed while maxing a ring on a mule. that way at the bare minimum you get 8atk / 10 stat between two rings if they stack, and if not you still have the tradeable ring to turn to.
