Having never played any Tales games, I have to say... this game looks horrible 
I think it's a combination of the anime'ish graphics and the overall cluttered flashiness of the combat that turns me off of it, but I dunno...
That said, everyone everywhere seems to be in love with the Tales series and they're apparently good for 80+ hours of gameplay so I'll probably wind up renting it to give it a shot and form a valid opinion at that point. I don't expect to like it though :-p
