USAF ROTC

During the college application season, I was thinking about applying to an ROTC program at times

Back in May of this year, I did throw out the idea about applying to the Navy ROTC. However, scratch that; at this moment, I'm giving a serious consideration to applying for the United States Air Force (USAF) ROTC scholarship.

Here are some notes to consider:

- I would be the first in my family to serve in the United States armed forces, if I get accepted and go through the entire program.

- If I accept the scholarship, I would have to commit to serving at least 4 years in USAF. What about specialized roles? Lets talk about that later.

- While my family is well-off financially, the one little motivation I have towards applying for the scholarship is money. I don't want to have to bleed my parents dry of money paying for my university education, even with financial aid and whatnot.

- I got some inside info regarding the ROTC training from a friend of mines who is attending UCLA (University of California-Los Angeles) right now (that school has an active Air Force/Navy/Army ROTC program). He mentioned that some of his university buddies are in the ROTC program; besides noticing that they have to shave their heads, they have to do a LOT of training during weekends and whatnot. And of course, they complain about the pains and aches. I listened closely since this is coming firsthand from someone who's attending an university that hosts the ROTC programs.

- I'm looking at applying as a History, Political Science, and/or Foreign Area Specialization - Western Europe (under USAF ROTC definitions)

The application is due December 1st. I have everything filled out and ready to go, but I'm having second thoughts pressing the "Submit" button and going through the second half of the application process.

What do you guys think? Any thoughtful comments/opinions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Airforce ROTC, isn't as hard as you think. The pain goes away after you do it for a few weeks.

I dunno, I'm never an advocate for military time. However, with ROTC I can see it as a viable option for college.

Though, with this recent korea stuff I'd be a little hesitant.

If anything Tay. He probably will be an informations worker if he wants it. Unless they teach him to fly, which is never hard or a badthing.

As awful as it sounds to me, government jobs are the way to go. Policy is a large component of our system and there will always be a need in that field. Getting a nice government job will lock you in with awesome benefits and a great salary.

Government also looks to people who have been in the military. It actually gets you in better than the straight lawyers trying to get into congress.
