By releasing Big Bang at the same time, Nexon can appeal to some people who are looking for something new to play during the holidays but don't have the money to go out and expand on WoW. They use this chance to hook them. It doesn't matter about the genre; someone who's seriously looking for something to play this holiday is bound to dabble. When I've looked for a new MMO to play I went through all ends of the spectrum. It's unrealistic to think that others wouldn't do the same.
Obviously we don't know Nexon's intent but it's not impossible that their goal is to sap off players who can't afford Cataclysm, or any of the various other releases this holiday season. And they've got the perfect platform to do it successfully.
To a totally new player, these revamps/updates in themselves mean almost nothing in terms of pull. To people who know what the games are about, they play the one they have an urge to play, though that surely is affected by the content hyped. I'm not ignorant enough to say marketing does not affect the players, I'm just tired of people pulling the WoW card whenever a comparison seems in order. If I wanna play an action pseudo platform game, I play Maple, if I want an actual rpg with tactics I'd play WoW. A total noob (in lack of better words) might get mesmerized by the shining trailers and marketing ploys, but the true gamer, the spending kind, will do much more research before commiting to a new game. The casual dude that only tries the game can and will do so without spending a dime.
