@Polantaris - No. You're always better off having more defense. A calculator is listed there. I encourage you to use it. Then you'll understand.
The flat/percentage is not a set tradeoff that happens at 8660. The tradeoff occurs depending on what attack the mob is and how much defense you have. It's variable, not static.
