For any "serious" bossing you will probably be level 170+ post-bb (leveling gets easier so the bossing level standard is naturally going to rise). What with paladins having a bonus 2 points in every skill for free (it is my full intention to have +4 as possible) because of this, you're likely to have a least 1 point in every skill. That means you've got some achillies and guardian and all that fun stuff for sure at 170. Now what i am almost postive what will happen is this. you won't often take enough damage powerguard on or off to need to use a significant amount of potions (yay free 80% hp potion every 30 seconds) at basically any boss where you will take any TOUCH DAMAGE. I dont anticipate using a single hp potion training on anything (i managed for the most part on a marauder while still training as efficiently as possible, i really don't see myself having trouble post bb as a wk/pally). I again assure you that i am perfectly aware of what powerguard does. But are you really aware of the effect it truly has? What does it really do for you? It doesnt save a significant amount on potions, it doesn't add an even noticeable amount of dps, the reduced knockback is significantly less useful anywhere past 80. You can keep quoting the skill description to me all you want it won't actually make the skill nearly as useful as it first sounds.
If you say the 50% reduction of power guard is useless. What about the reduction brought by achilles or shield mastery? They reduce way less than 50% so they are the ones you would be leaving unmaxed instead.
Point is, power guard is one of the highest damage reducing skills you've got. If you are getting hit 1 with or without it you'd rather take points off:
1) A skill that increases your defense less
2) a skill from 4th job since those points are more useful (can use on any job and 4th job is generally harder to choose what to max)
