I feel like 1 Slash Blast at level 10 -> max Power Strike is the best way to do 1st job, because Slash Blast's range is so awful and there aren't any maps mobby enough for the damage to be worth it because you need to lure monsters together to hit them with Slash Blast.

Impossible.

There's still the prerequisite of 1 point in Power Strike for Slash Blast. There's no real reason to use Power Strike in first job, unless you've killed all of the spawn except for one remaining monster. I've never run into a situation post-Big Bang where I wouldn't use Slash Blast over Power Strike.
