Ok. Crimsonwood weapons. Kind of a special subject for me. I built my Arcannon from scratch back before they were available from gach. Had the wood all ready to go the day Taos came out in the gach box event. It was, admittedly, a painful process. However, your experience with the wood drop rate is actually EXTREMELY low, a case of extraordinary bad luck. Back when Lower Ascent was empty, I would average about 5 Crimson Wood per 30 minutes, which was roughly the amount of time it took me to clear every channel. Another 15 minutes after that the spawn on the first channel I had visited would be (mostly) reset and I was able to start over, meaning 5 per 45 minutes or about 6-7 / hr on average. Bear in mind, Nexon has increased the drop rate since I made my staff; so whereas I haven't checked to see what it's like now, you should at the very least be seeing better than 7 wood / hr, baring any significant differences between Lower Ascent and Path of Strength.
The funny thing, too, is that over the month and a half or so it took me to gather the wood I met quite a few regulars and even made a couple friends. Between making the Staff and getting, say, my level 90 lord pirate hat, or any of the other more tedious things I've done in this awful game, the staff was by far the most worthwhile.
In short, don't give up based on your one experience. Give it another go or two before you make up your decision. Making these weapons is a pain, but in spite of the tedium having that brand new Arcannon in hand was easily the single most satisfying moment I've had in Maple.
