The council has chosen to fortify the city.
On the afternoon of November 19th, the council made the decision to fortify the city before engaging in any conflict with the aliens. The city's automated defense systems were put on full alert. Eos, the city's mayor, offered access to the city's own ammunition vault, loaded with powerful weaponry that was near military caliber. A reward was promised to the one who fended off the most aliens--a desperate promise to make, for a desperate cause.
Twenty two brave souls volunteered to fend off the aliens. Corn, BTA, ShiKage, Jon, Kurtle, Nalek, MetaSeraphim, MasPan, Darkmaniac, ChaoticCJ, z0mgc00k13, Kalovale, Sarah, sicnarf, Unauthorized Inruder, Holypie, Dualreaver, Rayquaza2233, PirateIzzy, ElectricSix, Greg, and Blaine all put themselves on the line, not only to save the lives of thousands, but also in some hopes of getting a huge reward. That's all the people of Southperry ever cared about, anyway.
On the evening twilight of the same day, after taking necessary precautions to defend the city in the case of the failure of the military effort to come, Southperry mustered what arms they could and set off to form the best surround they could around the crashed spacecraft. The air reeked of an unfamiliar, unpleasant stench; the atmosphere remained nervous. Soldiers stood stock still, silent as they awaited the command to fire. As for the aliens, noises could be heard from the spacecraft...and they were getting louder by the second. Feet shuffled in apprehension. Palms were sweaty, knees were buckling, and the silence held strong until...
"FIRE!" the commander called. The gray evening sky glowed bright with muzzle flashes, the air heavy with sounds of gunfire and explosives. A cloud of dust remained long after the soldiers had unleashed their fire. It was silent for a long time. Reassured, the soldiers began to evacuate the perimeter after several minutes of surveying the charred alien ship.
Then they heard rumbles. Growls. Fearsome noises, all of which had to have been coming from one place--the ship. They were alive and--
"OH MY GO"--the helpless armyman's voice was reduced to hacks and gargles as one of the aliens plunged into his throat. Panic ensued. Limbs flew left and right as the merciless predators decimated their attackers.
Surveyors from the city looked on from a distance, petrified by the screams of their defenders. As night fell, the aliens became dormant again. They would come for the city in the morning.
