Wait, what? The regular option to change it is screwed up or something? It says right there "Minimap mode : Normal | Simple."
What's so bad about the simple one, guys? I love it. Looking at the normal minimap is a pain. You have to look at it a bit before you can see where the hell anything is. With the simple minimap, everything is very easy to see - like ropes, where platforms are, etc. etc.
