@Mute: It's still going to sell like crazy. If you're the kind of person reading Joystiq/Engadget or Kotaku/Gizmodo, you probably aren't the target demographic anyway. Microsoft has put $500 million in advertising behind this thing, so there's no way it's going to fail. If Ellen and Oprah have already been enlisted to pimp Kinect, you know this is srsbsnss.
Personally, Kinect as a casual gaming tool is useless to me, but I'm genuinely about its gesture and voice-control capabilities. Kinect is going to start off as a 360 peripheral, but I can easily see the technology advancing to become part of our computers (Windows 8) or televisions themselves.
Besides, Microsoft could just release a Move/Wiimote controller of their own next year to satisfy the naysayers. It wouldn't be the first time one company has copied another.
