I would suggest the Trauma series. There's a lot of motion control used, but it's the direct opposite of flailing. Plus the whole med sim is a pretty unique genre in itself. As for RPGs, I'd suggest the Last Story when it eventually comes out in NA. It's a action RPG made by Mistwalker studios and directed by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the guy who created Final Fantasy. Though seeing that you didn't say much about FF besides Crystal Chronicles, I dunno if you'd be interested or not. It does look pretty different compared to the last few numbered FFs though.
