in my experience, chicks today are less interested in looks. guys are more shallow than girls though. besides, looks are a matter of opinion. what you think what makes a guy "hot", a girl might find him revolting. its like if you talk to your guy-friends about chicks, and you point out a hot chick, they'll be like "wtp that aint hot" and they point out a hot chick, and you'd be like "wtp she ugly".
