The main problems that arise in ownership from a chinchilla are environmental issues that you only have to think about once when you get him, then once whenever you move him. As long as you follow general rules with chinchillas (water in food is bad, water on coat is bad, too much heat is bad, too much cold is bad), you'll be fine.
