As for the current idea, heading out to the massive sea with the broken lit floor since it is a massive area and building a lava based floating castle. Would have many flows of lava going down into the sea below with a single large one in the center with a ladder chamber hidden inside. The chamber would be accessed at the sea floor a decent distance away via a door (since they block water even when open) and would have a few underwater fire lights leading to it from a separate coast (whichever was closest to spawn via sea). It would look like it was sitting on a broken island with dirt as the base and have the stereotypical castle walls and four corners made of cobblestone. Atop and inside the center would dual peaked obsidian mountain with lava flowing (internally only) creating a menacing face. Would have to be high enough to be seen from a distance, but low enough to see the face from a distance. Inspiration Bowser's Castle + Okami's Oni Island.
...Bah, now I'm second guessing myself for dropping pursuit of an architecture major.
Add to that some low lying ruins sticking out from the water here and there below around it. Might just make that take over the "sunken city" I had initially planned near my place. This of course would have to be placed in a large open body of water, but either be at one end of it, or not block off passage to the rest of the sea in the process. Also, creating "cups" for the lava to flow into since underwater lava doesn't look all that great. As far as I remember lava only turns into cobble where it enters the water and where it hits bottom. Maybe throw a burning tree or two on top of the island portion of the castle for effect. Oh, and on the subject of burning trees, I've found that a log on top of two fences makes nice tiki-torches when you throw a fire on top; jumping off of that, I have a question. Does fire just not burn down when leaves or planks aren't present or are fences fire-proof?
