Well, not quite. People's personalities and what they put on the internet is 99% of the time completely different than how they are in real life. For instance, on the internet, I'm a plantain, I'm annoying, I'm an ass-hole, and people generally do not like me in the least bit. In real life, I'm quiet, I keep to myself, I'm extremely polite/respectful, and I'm generally cool.
Yeah, it's a bit more odd to meet people you think you already know in real life. At things like video game bars (just to stay on topic), you kind of have to go with a group of friends. Like the video game club in my school, I had to start out with people I knew and then I became more acquainted with other gamers through my friends or my experience with those people. Gamers are generally shy and keep to themselves (or the complete opposite...).
