I like the Flipstream idea, it's just plainly too stupid not to be liked.
Even though it's quite a bit out of the scope of my knowledge, thinking rationally, the transfer of the kinetic in this case happens simultaneously among multiple atoms, whilst light energy transfers through space via the same exact photons.
The problem is, though, if the displacement of the googolians of atoms of that stick does not happen simultaneously, it would take an equally long time for your poke to be felt. I just don't see why it should not happen simultaneously.
