4chan can have threads that run its full life of discussion in a whole day, even less, and be deleted as more topics are created.

Well, it really varies from board to board. /jp/ moves much slower than boards like /a/, /v/, or /b/; discussions that last over a day are far more common here than on those three, and particularly crappy threads are weeded out pretty fast in comparison.
