Hoping and praying for something they've pretty much blatantly said is dead is denial.
Hoping and praying for something they've acknowledged will be out "soon" is typical.
Mocking the former while being in the latter is not hypocritical as they're as unrelated as mocking someone for wanting a donut while you beg for steak.
