I've been playing single-player Survival for a while now, and I have a lot of trouble with surviving. Every time I explore a cave to search for resources, I get raped by a Skeleton or a Zombie. I use stone tools and weapons (Primarily my pickaxe and sword, respectively) and I have no armor. I know how to craft, and I know all of the basics (Use plenty of torches, always have some pork readily available, etc), but that doesn't keep me alive when I'm down in those caves.
My "home" is about three minutes away from the spawn point, so the walk isn't too annoying yet, but my routine so far goes a little like this: Try to explore, die, walk back and collect what I dropped, die again. Can anyone give me some tips? I'm playing on "Normal" difficulty and refuse to go any lower. I don't think I'll enjoy the game knowing that I'm playing on a difficult that is fit for babies. I just want to mine! BUT I CAN'T!
In single player survival just change the difficulty to "Peaceful" no monsters, ever.
