Meph only seems to get alignments. Why would our detective be better? Also, just a stab in the dark really (I haven't played SC2, I just found this on the wiki page), but my guess for his role? An Overseer. It's a caster/detector, with the detector part being the key aspect. Some new mutation of Overlords, apparently.
