Use speedfan
Direct Download link since you keep shutting off
List of max temps of mnay CPUs
My intel p4 is currently at 60C, and has a max of 78C, so I'm chillin.
If you see it above 80/90/100 you know there's a problem, on a computer that old I'm assuming p4, which has a max of 78C or Celeron which is 77C
If it is your fan, its a simple $5 replacment part that Dell will ship to you via calling the customer support. If you only use your comp for internet/typing/maple, there's no reason to buy a new one.
Now if its not your CPU overheating (could be your gpu overheating as well), then buy a new computer
GEEKSQUAD USUALLY COSTS CLOSE TO $100 FOR A DIAGNOSES, WHICH IS NEARLY ENOUGH TO BUY A NEW, BETTER COMPUTER!
Call Dell tech support first if anything. They maybe confusing and not helpful, but I've had many problems resolved by them. Just act semi-pissed off, but not totally pissed off.
