The heart acts as piston and engine to your, my, our bodies. No form of life is capable of existing without it. Do you question the gentle amoeba how it functions without a brain? Do you dare ask how a body of a headless chicken is still capable of movement and function for minutes after decapitation, and the under appreciated roach capable of a week long furlough without its head? A brain is only important as it gives identity to a lifeform; it is the heart that gives life. Can you drink from a lake where no streams flow into or out of? No, of course not, underneath the sun it would stagnate unmoved, allowing for all forms of virus, bacteria, and filth to fester and decay in its murky waters. Can you climb a mountain if there is no air? surely you can try, and you may need air of your own but you cannot climb a mountain if the wind is too strong. This is what it means to be alive, to have motion that propels fluid and breath, life force and kinetic energy to struggle against the world, with gravity bearing down and friction holding back.
My brain feels. When I jerk my head around too quickly or if I get a head ache, it hurts.
