Yes, but in order for you to know that someone is trying to troll he must act like a troll. To go with your bookwriter analogy, if someone attempts to write a book but fails so hard that he ends up making a chair, no one can know he is a bookwriter.

The analogy does not even remotely work, since one can never achieve an act of carpentry out of an attempted act of literacy. You would've been better suggesting an attempt at poetry that became a book or vice versa if you wanted to extend the existing analogy.
