^If I remember correctly, horntail always targets the first person/people to enter the map until he/she/they is/are dead, so it's probably the same for the statue, only you can't control who gets seduced and who doesn't.
Oh and I was wrong about the statue's seduce; it casts three different forms of it. It can make you jump left, walk left, or jump right.
