That's how Dragonica JP is, too. It's very easy to read compared to a game like 鬼魂.

Japanese MMOs try to make it child-friendly but often epic fail in the process. The kanji contained in these maps aren't even on the standard list of kanjis taught in schools; most adults wouldn't be able to read 'em.
[edited] I see no point playing s'hitty Japanese MMOs when you have WoW, RO, UO, etc. and XBox Live.
