I think it's safe to say that such stretches in logic do more harm than good, because at some point, you can find a way to connect anyone to anything. A good hint or clue should be something that is fairly easy, if obscured, to figure out. At the moment we just have a single family guy reference, which is fairly unhelpful at the moment, but may become helpful or more obvious later on.
