/a/ is filled with too many normalfriends now, some of them pretend to have a 2D complex just to fit in but would happily get in a relationship if given the chance.
If it were old /a/, then yeah.
If the above posts are attempting to make this into a semi-serious thread, I can say that Sarah's view of the this certainly isn't incorrect for some, but to try to narrow something like this down to a single cause is taking it the wrong way and shows a real lack of understanding and actual research. As a person who's been around communities packed with these people for years, I can tell you that the people you're talking about are actually the minority when it comes to this. Above that I'd have to say there are more people who have actually been in a handful of relationships and have grown bitter over their experiences, realizing that it isn't worth it in the end and they should just stick to their ideal model of a lover.
This is also very common in these communities.
You can hate the thought of being with anyone and dislike socially interacting with others. However, you could long for a companion, but certainly not one that you'd have to interact with.
There's also the fact of the matter that a lot of 2D characters are made with traits that make them more near what many people view as perfection, and no real person can ever hope to reach such a level. This can be done in any number of ways, and isn't just restricted to appearances, or catering to fetishes that don't exist in real life.
You're right, but at the same time you're wrong if you're thinking of it with such a one track mind. You're thinking of this like an elementary math problem. Y'know, how there's always one concrete answer, with no vague components or anything. But then when you get to more advanced levels of math, when you really get deep into the subject, you see that things aren't so clear cut anymore. It's like a game of chess, where your goal is to reach checkmate, but there are an infinite number of ways that you can get there. There are just too many ways to reach this one destination to name them all. The answer you've come up with is the case for some people, not the case for all people. It's a gross generalization that doesn't even reflect the majority.
This is a psychological problem, so don't try to simplify things to a single answer. There's never a single answer when it comes to how the brain works.
