Don't know this story, but an infraction causing a break in the friendship? How old are you guys? Seriously, that's kiddie stuff. Does he expect you to show a bias to him because he's your friend?
Why would you announce this to everyone to blow it out of proportion? To seek attention so you can ask of forgiveness?
Don't get me wrong, I respect the fact that you're so calm about this situation, but what goes on between you and another member on the site shouldn't be made into a public matter. A moderator is leaving, so I guess people do have a right to know this, but you didn't have to bring personal issues into this.
