He only brought his Hero and Bow Master in. If there was a screenshot that showed one of his bishops in the raid or something, it's because he used it to door people up, didn't bring it in though.

I'd go with what Cindy said. I'm not sure what the requirements are, but "Beyond the Ruins" was completed for me, my log says it was done over a year ago, which would probably be the time we first tried.
