Actually the major general was played by a fairly pot-bellied kid who definitely played the part very well. The controversy was over the female lead as one girl had the vocals but lacked the appearance and the other girl was extremely pretty but wasn't as good when it came down to vocals. Toss in the fact that both of them were my friends and you have some very interesting dialogue that I got to listen to as they alternated on different play dates. Also the pirate lead was a kid who just smoked pot outside the school and knew the play by heart so he auditioned for the role and got it. The drama kids were furious. Especially the guy who usually plays the male lead. It was a fantastic play. It was just that there was a lot of drama surrounding it because a bunch of people wanted to be in it who weren't normally in the drama club.
