That could very well be an underground route..AH what if the maps we saw in that add the backround view is actually FOR karkia in traveling to the lost city by first going under ground?
Krakia's a lost city, right? Supposedly deep within the jungles and such? Since the Krakians went to war with the Keep, I could think they'd have more secretive routes that they formed to give them any sort of upper edge. Perhaps that dot is where an underground tunnel came up; may not seem too impossible since it's seemingly close to the Phantom Forest, and those trees are formed by the souls of dead Krakians. If that dot is actually to become a map, I could see us being able to travel there, go underground and traverse a tunnel full of bizarre creatures, then come out into a mysterious clearing. The path of this undiscovered forest would lead to this lost civilization, which has become a hidden base for Dr. Krakia, creating hundreds of mechanical guards and monsters for inevitable use against those with peace on Masteria.
Because of a person traveling underneath the ground for a few maps, the sudden change in the sky may work. Not sure how I can explain it, but as I mentioned in some earlier post of mine, Ariant's all chipper and sunny. After some transition maps, it's night-night for Magatia.

If you mean by the appearance of the moon/nighttime, the maps can easily progress into it, one can assume you would travel quite a bit.
Look at the haunted mansion, it's night, but you drive their from nlc, which is in the daytime.
