Even if they're using a proxy, that doesn't mean it's impossible to identify them.
to do a DDoS(Distributed Denial of Service), you have to make a lot of connection to the server to the point it can't handle anymore connection and crash, its like when there is too many people accessing sw.net, and you get that message, server too busy. so its probably a virus that is spread to a lot of computers, and the hacker remotely tell the virus to connect to nexon server, making it crash, it if we are talking about ddos atack against nexon server.
