This effectively "saves the game" up to that point and saves your items. After 3 nights of rollbacking, this was proven to keep all my gear and levels the same way on all my characters. If i had only knew before my wg was stolen.
Definitely an interesting way to "Save State" your character / account. I essentially did the same thing only from buying an Owl from the CS to search for some Maker stuff after popping my Sword last night.
