Welcome to College

I hate how the dramatic sob-music is playing in the background and the graffiti behind the chairs are supposed to leave an impression on me. It's supposed to, but it doesn't. There are many "non-traditional" students who face a harder life than them. One of my classmates was a thirty-five year old mother who woke up at 5am, drove her two-year old to a nursery at roughly 7am, got to class by 9am, got out of class by 4pm, worked her job from 4-7pm, picked up her child at 8pm, and got home by 9pm. From 10pm to ?am she studied. This deserves the melodramatic music. I had a deep respect for her and even covered for her in lecture when she couldn't attend because of her child. She even broke down and started crying because she was worried whether or not her child was being fed properly. She was also afraid that her child would forget who she was and would briefly make a trip to the bathroom and come back quickly. She didn't have this, "pity me. Life is so hard" mentality. She was a true champion and I truly respect her. I could peach about my schedule and missing out on friends, but doing so would absolutely put me to shame when I think of what she has to go through just in order to complete her degree. This video is shameful because it is created in order to evoke sympathy from the audience. College students don't need to be pitied, they just need to increase their willingness to understand there are people doing the exact same things they are doing under even more strenuous conditions. And even though I do peach and rant like a spoiled child, I always have the most humble real life experiences that put me back into place and make me realize my place in the world.

I'm nothing special. Just a little brat who has the luxury of studying while working a part-time job. And so, I'll continue to do my best studying and try to utilize what has been given to me to the best of my abilities. Regardless of what other people say, I will try to not lose my perspective on life and the gifts that have been given to me.

I'm not attacking you. I just felt that the video was very-one sided given the opening messages. There are many things wrong with my college and I think it's a piece of ----. But I enjoy the fact that I can get an education and have the leisure to read anything I want and take up a profession to help people how I want. I've been given a lot of freedoms and I appreciate that wholeheartedly.
