[SIZE="2"]Kansas State University just dropped bottom in terms of "respect" in my opinion. You should love your major and what you're studying. If you don't, then accept the fact that you'll just be a "middle-man" unless you have a high degree of natural intelligence and can think on the subject matter in new and innovative ways that are beyond normal comprehension.
As an 18 Year Old-American Male Citizen, you have the possibility of getting drafted and dying in the military. This is a time of responsibility. You pay for College, but this doesn't mean College has to "walk you by the hand." Especially at a "state-university" you have to claw and bite to get the best scholarships and to reduce your tuition by as much as possible. Scholarships aren't going to go out of their way to look for smart kids. Smart kids go out of their way to look for scholarships that belong to them and apply for them.
If you want a University that cares more about your needs, pay $40,000 a year for a small-private college. That's what the heft price-tag is for: more personal 1-1 time with your professor to do whatever whining you need to do in order to change your B+ to an A.
In the end, anyone can say that they want something more than another person but how do Colleges know they actually mean it? You study, love what you study, and sometimes study because you want to do well. Nothing is ever black and white. But if you honestly try hard, colleges will reward appropriately.
If I honestly had to fill out a sign it would go: [Getting hosed down by the local fire department for overcrowding an Organic Chemistry Class filled by 500 students over capacity.] It's almost been a tradition in our school for one professor's Organic Chemistry class to be 5x pass the capacity limit because he is the only professor who can teach. The local Fire Department every year pulls out hoses and starts threatening students to leave because they are a "fire hazard."
Kids still protest. Kids still stay. Kids still give the fire department people the middle finger. Kids get hosed. And life goes on. It's a beautiful world. Kids join the facebook group and meet up afterwards for some alcohol and laughs. Kids network and share the moment for the rest of their lives. There's always a positive side to the darkest situations. And even the darkest situations ten years down the road is like a tragedy occurring on a PBS-13 show like Barney. No big deal at all.
Edit: I've met the smartest pineappleing kids at College. So smart, they blew any sense of "pride" I had left in me of my own "intelligence." And even though I've learned more from them than any professor, I wouldn't have met them if it wasn't for college. The only reason why I can keep up with my studies is because I love to read anything. But honestly, I wouldn't have realized just how insanely naturally smart some children are if it wasn't for College. [/SIZE]
