but really MG is still a pain in the ass and it feels (at least to me) that it makes pot costs skyrocket
I don't think it's more expnesive to use magic guard than it is to survive as a ranged class. I have to use a ginger ale every single hit both while training and at high-damaging bosses (or every other hit/3 hits for low-damaging ones), I'd like to think you'd be able to survive more than 1 hit with 75% of your hp/mp, other than 1/1s of course. Magicians are technically ranged by the way, you can attack from a long range.
