Which ring for a Dragon Knight?

Mathematics is a touchy topic when it comes to "no lies". It is true what you say, that math does not lie. However, our understanding of it may be wrong, and this topic may have this issue:

Mathematically speaking, the average DPS is lower when using the critical ring over the cruel ring for Dark Knights without using any other critical-buff. But here's what you should keep in mind: We're talking about the average damage per second: The average amount of damage per second you would do against a monster with infinite HP. We are not talking about the ring which gives you the fastest experience on skelegons, and that difference is important:

Say you have a ring which give you +5 000 000% damage on 0.001% of all your attacks: That will increase your average DPS by 500%! Surely, this must be better than the other ring which gives +800% damage on 50% of all your attacks: The average DPS with this is just a 400% increase. However, the ring which gives less DPS is certainly better than the other if you're going to hunt skelegons: And that's the point here.

Indeed, the rings doesn't have such incredible stat-differences as in my example, but that was just to illustrate my point. The difference isn't great here, but during all the training at skelegons (or wherever you are), the average EPS (Experience per second) will most likely be higher[SIZE="1"][*][/SIZE] with the critical ring than with the cruel ring. The critical ring makes you not overkill your monster by 50k damage, and it activates rather frequently, making your damage higher, yet more stable than wiht cruel. For bosses, SE will give you a higher dps with crit than with cruel, and the criticals will activate more frequently.

[SIZE="1"][*] - one example where cruel ring is better than critical ring, is whenever you 100% hit a monster with the extra 1 attack you gain from the cruel ring. Another is when you have a high probability to make a critical, say 95% or 100%: then cruel will activate every single time, and so will critical. Obviosuly the %-difference and the attack-difference will be better with the cruel then. I would like to say that both of these cases will not happen frequently, thus we scratch those out.[/SIZE]

Well yea, you have to understand what the numbers mean behind the numbers, otherwsie it's just pointless. Pretty much the only time people in my opinion should care about the rings is when you go bossing as it does not make much difference anywwhere else (Except some classes with passive crit i believe).

People can choose whatever ring they want. But if a person asks which one is better, and you give them a wrong answer that is based on flaw reasoning, well that's just misinformation.
