Different. Semicolons connect two thoughts that are very related, but are seperate enough that they can't be help together with a comma. Both thoughts are also indipendent. A colon is used to introduce a list or a specific idea that can not stand on its own.
For example:
Space: It is the final frontier
Many people wanted to travel to space; it was the final fronteir.
For example:
Space: It is the final frontier
Many people wanted to travel to space; it was the final fronteir.
